SOCIO-PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RESILIENCE OF CHILDREN IN UKRAINE DURING THE WAR

The article examines the phenomenon of children’s resilience in the context of preserving their psychological health during wartime. It is noted that with the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the number of stressogenic factors has significantly increased, leading to emotional exhaustion, maladaptive reactions, and disruptions of mental balance. The most vulnerable in this situation are children and adolescents whose psychological defense mechanisms are not yet fully formed, which increases the risk of developing emotional and behavioral disorders. In this regard, the study of resilience as a key factor of psychological well-being and personal adaptation in conditions of social instability becomes particularly relevant. The purpose of the article is to conduct a theoretical analysis and an empirical study of the psychological characteristics of children’s resilience in Ukraine during the war. The paper presents a synthesis of scientific approaches to the study of resilience and examines its evolution through four research waves, reflecting the shift from describing personality traits to understanding resilience as a multidimensional process of interaction between biological, psychological, and social factors. It is emphasized that the development of resilience serves as a leading mechanism for adaptation and recovery after psychotraumatic events. The article highlights age-specific features of resilience manifestation among children of primary school and adolescent age. The main determinants of resilience are identified as social support, emotional self-regulation, individual psychological stability, personal activity, and the stability of the social environment. The empirical research conducted among children living in war conditions showed that a high level of social support and well-developed self-regulation skills contribute to faster psychological recovery. It is concluded that resilience is a key factor of psychological well-being that enables a child to maintain personal integrity, activity, and social engagement even under prolonged stressful conditions.
