CREATIVE FIGURE OF PAVLO YAKUBCHYK IN THE HISTORY OF BRASS PERFORMANCE OF VINNYTSIA REGION

Abstract

The article is dedicated to Pavlo Oleksandrovych Yakubchyk, a prominent educator who effectively established the professional foundation for the entire Podillia wind school. Today, as Ukraine’s regional art centers undergo painful transformations, it is crucial to record and comprehend the precise development of brass performance in a region that has long remained on the periphery of scientific discourse. The study is based on the author’s personal experience as a student in Pavlo Yakubchyk’s class, supplemented by an extensive array of archival documents and interviews with colleagues. The educator’s professional journey is traced: the fusion of military discipline and profound musical psychologism became the «gold standard» of his original teaching methodology. His contribution to primary arts education was particularly significant. Pavlo Oleksandrovych masterfully combined the roles of mentor, insightful conductor, and a leader capable of uniting the youth. The article identifies the key principles of the «Yakubchyk class» that remain relevant today: uncompromising sound production culture, iron-clad intonation stability, development of ensemble hearing, and the cultivation of a versatile performer. The effectiveness of his pedagogical system is best illustrated by the successes of his students. Many of them are now leading soloists, orchestral musicians, and ensemble directors both in Ukraine and abroad. The study emphasizes that in times of social upheaval, it is the personality of the Teacher that serves as the primary factor in preserving institutional memory and professional integrity. The conclusions of the article highlight the importance of studying the experience of such local «drivers» of wind art, which is critical for the modernization of contemporary music pedagogy and the preservation of the continuity of the Ukrainian music-pedagogical tradition.
