Abstract

The article examines jazz as a phenomenon of world musical culture and its integration into the modern music and educational space. The historical prerequisites for the formation of jazz art, its artistic features, and its significance for the development of musical culture are analyzed. The specificity of jazz as a synthetic form of art that combines improvisation, rhythmic freedom, polyrhythm, syncopation, and stylistic diversity is highlighted, which determines its considerable pedagogical potential. Particular attention is paid to the Ukrainian jazz tradition, its formation, development, and integration into the global musical space, as well as to the possibilities of creative reinterpretation of national musical material through the means of jazz stylistics. The study reveals the main approaches to the implementation of jazz techniques in the educational process of art institutions, including the use of improvisation, variability of musical material, rhythmic patterns, syncopated structures, and elements of scat singing as effective means of developing students’ musical abilities. The practical aspects of using jazz vocal and choral compositions in the educational process of students of the Institute of Culture and Arts of Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko are analyzed. It is shown that the combination of jazz elements with traditional forms of vocal and choral training contributes to the development of rhythmic sense, harmonic hearing, ensemble skills, and the ability for creative interpretation of musical material. The importance of integrating jazz stylistics with Ukrainian musical traditions as a factor in the formation of nationally oriented musical thinking, the development of creative initiative, and the expansion of opportunities for artistic self-realization is emphasized. The application of such approaches in the educational process ensures the improvement of performance culture, the development of improvisational thinking, the formation of musical perception, stage culture, and the professional competence of future specialists in the field of musical art. The obtained results confirm the effectiveness of integrating jazz art into the system of modern music education and demonstrate its significant potential as a means of enhancing students’ cognitive activity, developing their artistic thinking, and improving practical training in the context of contemporary educational practices.
