Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the genre structure of Chinese folk music, which represents a multifaceted system of interaction between vocal, instrumental, and dance forms. The specifics of solo song performance are analyzed, highlighting that it can exist both independently and in combination with instrumental accompaniment, including the use of traditional percussion instruments. The features of instrumental music for small ensembles and dance genres are also examined as important components of the artistic tradition. A detailed analysis of the thematic content of the song repertoire in Chinese folklore is carried out. The connection between song content and the natural environment, mythological beliefs, ritual practices, and everyday life is analyzed. The historical evolution of genres and themes is considered, from early forms associated with ritual and ceremonial practices to the emergence of work songs performed during agricultural activities and fishing. The socio-critical layer of folklore is analyzed, reflecting protest sentiments and condemnation of social injustice. Particular attention is paid to lyrical, love, and family songs that convey the inner world of individuals, their emotional experiences, and interpersonal relationships. Playful and humorous genres characterized by vivid imagery and vitality are also analyzed. The symbolic dimension of folklore, including works associated with mythological figures of cultural and sacred significance, is examined. The article also considers performance practices and the specifics of combining vocal and instrumental elements. The role of traditional plucked string instruments in shaping the melodic foundation is analyzed. Special attention is given to percussion instruments, which provide rhythmic organization, enhance dynamics, and contribute to expressive performance. The functions of various types of percussion instruments, including drums and simple idiophones, are examined within both ensemble and solo contexts. Thus, a generalized analysis of Chinese folk musical art is presented, allowing for a deeper understanding of its genre diversity, thematic richness, and performance traditions. The significance of instrumental accompaniment, particularly percussion instruments, is analyzed as an important factor in shaping the artistic integrity and national distinctiveness of Chinese folk music.
