VOCAL ART IN THE MODERN UKRAINIAN SPACE: ISSUES OF THE TEXT AND ITS DELIVERY TO THE LISTENER

Abstract

The issues discussed in this article touch upon the current challenges of the development and transformation of the modern Ukrainian vocal art. The authors of the article address the problem of textual content in both pop and academic vocal works in the context of rethinking of the national identity. The relationship between music and words in vocal art is revealed. The article explores the manifestation of the affinity between music and words in the following aspects: in the philosophical sense, as belonging to the spiritual life of a person (soul, prayer); in the philological sense, as the presence of common characteristics (song-like quality, melody, tunefulness); in the sociological sense, as the interdependence of spoken and musical intonations within a specific ethnic environment.The powerful potential of vocal art in the modern Ukrainian space is highlighted, with vocal art seen as a tool for shaping linguistic culture and the national identity of the Ukrainian people. The article also addresses the issue of the quality of textual content in pop vocal works. Several performance challenges are outlined regarding the transmission of the substantive content of pop songs to the modern listener. The authors point out geopolitical and social transformations that have significantly impacted the processes of the national self-determination and self-awareness, as well as substantially altered the musical sphere. The article examines the specific features of the texts of modern Ukrainian pop songs, their semantic and communicative characteristics. The authors emphasize that the pop song in the modern Ukrainian cultural space is one of the most widespread forms of art, carrying aesthetic, spiritual, communicative, identificational, and educational meanings. Attention is focused on the problem of effectively conveying the concept of a vocal work from the performer to the listener. The influence of the mass culture, digital media and globalization on the transformation of the vocal traditions is analyzed. The article identifies the key problems of semantic, phonetic and communicative nature, and outlines the prospects for the harmonious combination of music and words as a factor in preserving the national identity.
