FACEBOOK POSTS AS A FORM OF ANALYTICAL DISCOURSE: A SEMANTIC AND PRAGMATIC PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

This article examines the analytical Facebook post as a relatively new genre within the Ukrainian-language segment of the Facebook social networking platform. The relevance of the study stems from the growing influence of social media on the contemporary information environment, the increasing public demand for high-quality analytical content during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the need for a scholarly understanding of emerging genres of analytical discourse. The study aims to identify the structural, semantic, and pragmatic characteristics of the analytical Facebook post and to distinguish its specific features from those of other analytical discourse genres. The research corpus comprises Facebook posts by Ukrainian journalists, political scientists, military personnel, media experts, and public figures published during the period of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The study applies the methods of sampling, observation, interpretation, descriptive analysis, lexical-semantic, discourse, and pragmalinguistic analysis, as well as the method of generalization. The findings indicate that the analytical Facebook post integrates the prompt dissemination of information with the author's interpretation, evaluation, forecasting, and reflection on socially significant events. The genre is characterized by conciseness, a clear and coherent structure, argumentation, accessibility, personalization, emotional and expressive language, suggestive potential, and a strong orientation toward audience engagement. The study identifies the compositional model of the analytical Facebook post and outlines its principal pragmatic strategies, namely informational-analytical, suggestive-analytical, and reflective-analytical. It also demonstrates how these strategies determine the selection of linguistic means and shape the semantic organization of the text. The findings confirm that the analytical Facebook post serves as an effective instrument for interpreting current events, shaping public opinion, fostering critical thinking, and consolidating the Ukrainian- speaking community in the context of information warfare. The article describes the genre-specific, semantic, and pragmatic features of the analytical Facebook post as an independent form of contemporary analytical discourse in the Ukrainian-language segment of Facebook.
