FUNCTIONAL-SEMANTIC FEATURES OF THE ONOMASTIC SPACE IN SOFIA ANDRUHOVICH'S NOVEL “FELIX AUSTRIA”

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the functioning of proper names in samples of modern Ukrainian prose. The study of proper names as linguistic universals is currently one of the key components of Ukrainian linguistics. Onims actively respond to changes in the social life of native speakers, reflect the main cultural, historical, political, and spiritual processes of human development. On the other hand, they are the carriers of the signs of a certain historical period, geographical area, etc. The onymicon of Sofia Andruhovich's novel “Felix Austria” is determined by the goal of artistically depicting the collisions of the main characters on the background, of life in the city of Stanislavov at the beginning of the 20th century. The article classifies and interprets the main groups of onims in a work of art, defines their linguistic and ideological-aesthetic role in the formation of the form-content level of the text. It was found that the anonymous space of the work reflects the synthesis of the Western European tradition and elements of the Ukrainian language system.It focuses on the most common types of proper names that form the linguistic picture of the text, in particular in the aspect of reproduction of the multinationality of the language in the western Ukrainian lands.
