LANGUAGE MEANS CONVEYING EMOTIVENESS IN ENGLISH LANDSCAPE DESCRIPTIONS

The article is devoted to the study of language means expressing emotiveness in English landscape descriptions. The objective is to distinguish language means conveying emotiveness of landscape descriptions in English belles-lettres works by means of context analysis. In the paper realization of emotions in landscape descriptions by means of phonetic, morphological, lexical and syntactical language units is analyzed. The samples of descriptive fragments were selected from English prose belles-lettres texts. Analysis of present sources resulted in defining theoretical basis and outlining main trends in scientific research of objectivizing emotiveness in descriptive texts. It was established that emotionally marked language units can fulfill emotive function. Due to this an emotional picture of the surrounding world is created in a hypothetical reader’s imagination. It was stated that on the phonetic level consonants and consonant clusters convey movements of living creatures, illumination changes, different sounds of nature. Vowels impart minor or major keys to landscape descriptions. It is noted that using suffixes with positive and negative connotation and change of morphological composition of a unit prevail on the syntactical level. It was found that lexis is the most fruitful means of actualizing emotiveness in English prose descriptions. Among various lexical-semantic groups evaluative lexis and sensor units (lexical-semantic fields “weather-climate”, “light-darkness”, sound nominating and sound symbolizing words, odour units, colour units, words denoting natural elements, temperature fluctuations, tactile units), lexis with low stylistic tone are widely used. It was established that inversion, usage of emphatic do, exclamatory and interrogative sentences are characteristic syntactical verbalizers in landscape fragments.
