Abstract

Sophisticated approaches of modern linguistics are encountering the national specifics of linguistic and speech phenomena. Thus, the close connection with the categories of mental, ideological, axiological orders makes it possible to refer the concept HEALTH to the key concepts of culture being quite necessary for those studying language and culture. The article aims to contribute to the study of a new segment of linguistic and conceptual pictures of the ancient Romans, to the further study of the mechanisms of verbalization of the linguistic picture of the world, primarily by lexical language level, as well as to the integrated description of the one the most culturally important concepts of ancient Roman ethnic consciousness. Through the prism of syntagmatics, a universal way of studying concepts that enables updating conceptual information to the extent involved in the classification units of language, we have almost accurately revealed the features of the linguistic manifestation of existential phenomena which the concept HEALTH belongs to. The meaning of the concept HEALTH is explained through the extended syntagmatic connections of the words representing the subconcepts SALUS, SANITAS and VALETUDO. Thus, to identify insufficiently covered aspects of the concept HEALTH analysis in the Latin language, namely the definition of additional cognitive features, the article applies to a deeper analysis of the syntagmatic connections of the words representing one of the subconcepts - VALETUDO. The article focuses mainly on the analysis of syntagmatic relations of words representing the subconcept in the Latin language. It gives a deep insight into a better understanding of different semes combinations that have also resulted in accurate defining of the integrated seme and made it possible to better analyze the ability of its lexemes to be combined in different contexts. It all has provided us with the possibility to determine the inherent characteristics of the subconcept under research. Also, the article outlines the semantic field of the subconcept, its core and core area as well as its near and far peripheries. Due to the revealed results, some additional cognitive features for a more detailed analysis of the concept HEALTH in the Latin language have been identified.
