A STUDY OF THE IMPACT OF PROLONGED TRAUMATIC STRESS ON PROFESSIONALS IN PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONS

The article presents the results of an empirical study on the impact of prolonged traumatic stress under martial law on the health, psychoemotional, and psychophysiological states of specialists in psychological and pedagogical professions. A theoretical analysis of contemporary Ukrainian and international research indicates that war functions as a powerful chronic stressor, leading to the development of posttraumatic, emotional, cognitive, and somatic disturbances, as well as moral injury. At the same time, the issue of the impact of prolonged martial law on representatives of the educational sector requires further empirical investigation, which determines the relevance of this study. The aim of the study was to identify the specific features of the impact of prolonged traumatic stress on health, emotional state, and somatic manifestations of moral injury among teaching staff and students enrolled in pedagogical education programs. The findings revealed a significant deterioration in emotional state (81.3%) and health (58.9%) among the surveyed educational professionals. For the majority of participants, indicators of response to prolonged traumatic stress were at low and moderate levels suggesting a state of strained adaptation; 5.6–6.5% demonstrated high levels of moral injury. Participants primarily reported somatic symptoms of exhaustion and pain. The analysis revealed group differences: master’s students in pedagogical education programs had higher scores on the “Exhaustion and Anger” scale. These results indicate the need for systematic monitoring, as well as further research into professional burnout, resilience, selfefficacy, and professional hardiness, in order to develop and implement comprehensive psychological support and psychophysiological recovery programs for educational professionals as a critical resource for resilience in the context of prolonged war.
