The article presents a thorough analysis of the genre and style features of the Sonatina for trombone and piano by Jacques Castared, an outstanding representative of the French musical culture of the twentieth century. Attention is drawn to the combination of traditional genre forms and modern compositional approaches that have become characteristic of his work. In the course of the analysis, the main structural elements of the work, such as form formation, harmony and texture, are considered, which allows us to identify genre innovations and stylistic features inherent in this work. The article also reveals the influence of French national musical traditions and international trends that J. Castared integrated into his compositions. Considerable attention is paid to the synthesis of neoclassicism and impressionism, which are manifested in the structure of the harmonic language and rhythmic organisation of the work. The compositional style of J. Castared, which combines the influence of the French national colour and universal musical trends of the time, is considered. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the Sonatina for trombone and piano by J. Castared, identifying compositional features (three-part structure, the main compositional technique of rhythmic and harmonic variations) that combine impressionistic and neoclassical elements of the style. This work reveals the technical and expressive potential of the trombone, raising its status as a solo instrument in chamber music. The study has shown that the Sonatina for trombone and piano is an important stage in the development of chamber music of the twentieth century, which accumulates innovative approaches and reliance on French musical traditions. The conclusions of the article emphasise the significance of this work not only for the development of the trombone repertoire, but also for the expansion of the genre boundaries of chamber music in general. J. Castared's compositional skills confirm his role as an innovator who was able to combine the national with the international, creating music that influenced the further development of the genre.
