Abstract

The article examines the genre of piano trio in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the most outstanding representatives of world musical art. During his creative life, Mozart created eight piano trios, most of which were written for the common instrumental ensemble of the time: harpsichord, violin, and cello (with the exception of the E-flat major trio, created for piano, viola, and clarinet), and his B-flat major opus is quite typical for this genre. The author of the study focuses on the combination of Mozart’s creative experiments and practical activities. The piano trios serve as an important form for testing significant musical techniques, as well as a means of satisfying the demands of influential patrons. The first trio in B-flat major (K. 254) вЂDivertimento’, created in 1776 when Mozart was working in Salzburg, is analyzed. The opus emerged during the period of working on Symphony No. 31 (вЂParis’) and Piano Concerto No. 17, and marks the beginning of the composer’s quite active involvement in the genre of chamber music. The study emphasizes that despite the chamber nature, the works are characterized by elegance, harmony, perfection, and the richness of musical language. The article explores Mozart’s stylistic signature through the example of trios. It examines the flawlessness of melodic structure, harmonic mastery, and clarity of musical expression. It is argued that the uniqueness of Mozart’s creativity lies in the fact that his music is accessible and understandable to listeners of any age and level of preparation, yet remains complex for analytical comprehension. The article will be useful both to professional performers and students of higher art institutions, as working on piano trios in chamber ensemble classes reveals the uniqueness of Mozart’s musical language. The analysis of timbral and dynamic nuances, precision of articulation, and depth of musical dialogues contribute to the formation of professional skills of performers at any level. The article also emphasizes the importance of the original editions of trios, published in the second half of the 20th century under the editorship of V. Plat and V. Rem, which preserved the authenticity of the author’s intent, providing practicing musicians with access to more original scores. The study highlights the significance of piano trios for understanding Mozart’s creative method, his genius simplicity, and inexhaustible aesthetic value.
