INTERPRETATION OF THE UKRAINIAN SONG IN CONTEMPORARY POP VOCAL PERFORMANCE AS A FACTOR IN THE FORMATION OF THE NATIONAL STYLE

Abstract

The article explores the specific features of interpreting Ukrainian songs in contemporary pop vocal performance as a phenomenon of national musical culture and its integration into the global artistic space. It examines the foundations of national style formation, shaped by the interaction between authentic song traditions and modern trends in the global pop scene. Special emphasis is placed on preserving the intonational and melodic nature of Ukrainian folk music – marked by lyricism, tenderness, and a soft vocal manner –combined with modern sound production techniques, dynamic delivery, and improvisational elements.The role of language in preserving identity is highlighted: the use of literary Ukrainian and regional dialects ensures authenticity and cultural localization of musical works. Significant attention is given to the influence of folklore as a source of melodic structure, imagery, and rhythm, which manifests in direct arrangements, stylizations, symbolic references, and the use of traditional instruments. The importance of rhythmic organization is emphasized, as many compositions are built on the repetition of rhythmic formulas. The article also considers the use of modern vocal techniques, microphone skills, and stage presentation, which together create the synthetic character of contemporary performance. It is noted that while Ukrainian pop music aligns with Western production and sound design standards, it demonstrates not imitation but conscious synthesis, where Western forms are merged with Ukrainian content. The interpretation of Ukrainian songs in modern pop vocal performance represents a dynamic balance of tradition and innovation, fostering cultural continuity, affirming national identity, and serving as an effective tool of cultural diplomacy. This approach contributes to the renewal of song heritage, preservation of the nation’s mental code, and active engagement of younger audiences with Ukrainian musical culture.
