THE ROLE OF TEACHERS IN THE NATIONAL AND PATRIOTIC EDUCATION OF YOUNGER SCHOOLCHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

The article analyzes the problem of national-patriotic education of younger schoolchildren with intellectual disabilities. The peculiarities of the formation of national consciousness in this category of children have been determined. It is noted that the patriotic upbringing of schoolchildren with intellectual disabilities is more difficult, taking into account the peculiarities of their psychophysical development. The role of teachers in the national-patriotic education of schoolchildren with intellectual disabilities is analyzed. Recommendations for teachers regarding education of patriotism in schoolchildren with special educational needs are indicated. The results of a survey of teachers are presented, in order to find out how they understand the concept of “national-patriotic education”, who, in their opinion, should be engaged in the national-patriotic education of children, whether they need the help of schoolchildren’ families in the implementation of national-patriotic education, among other types of education, how much time (%) they would spend on national-patriotic education, what forms of work regarding national-patriotic education do they consider effective, do they have enough information to plan effective interaction with parents regarding patriotic education of children, what factors complicate the process of education patriotism in children with intellectual disabilities. The results of a survey of teachers testify to their awareness of the problem of national-patriotic education of schoolchildren. They noted that the difficulties in working with younger schoolchildren with intellectual disabilities are related to both their psychophysical development and parents’ reluctance to participate in the education of patriotism in them. It was emphasized that patriotic education should include all participants in the educational process, contribute to the formation of national and universal human values and personal qualities inherent in a citizen of Ukraine in schoolchildren and confirmation in teachers and parents.
