Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the development of philological education in the information society. The author has set the following tasks: to reveal the main trends in the development of the information civilisation; to summarise the views of scholars on the processes of genesis and transformation of global civilisation processes in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries; to define the role of philological education in the information global society. In connection with the subject matter of the study, the author reveals the main trends in the development of the information civilisation. The views of scholars on the processes of genesis and transformation of global civilisation processes in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries are summarised. On the basis of theoretical comprehension of this topic, the role of philological education in the development of the information civilisation is determined. The author provides an overview of the current socio-cultural situation and argues that the information society has a significant impact on the development and transformation of education. The author analyses the role of philological education in the process of formation of the information civilisation, defines the peculiarities of the civilisation approach to the consideration of educational processes. It is shown that the development of the knowledge-based information civilisation requires a qualitative reform of education, which plays an important role in social development and contributes to the formation of competences, professionalism, worldview and creative thinking of the future philologist. The author of the article notes that in the modern scientific reflection on the processes of formation of the information society, there are different but interdependent trends due to the attitude of their representatives to the role of scientific knowledge, education and scientific information. The author studies the peculiarities of modernisation of philological education under the influence of civilisation processes. Its role in the information global society is defined and the need to update its content and forms is emphasised. On the basis of the reception of scientific approaches of representatives of world pedagogical, sociological and philosophical thought, the prospects of representing the information civilisation in the educational discourse are substantiated. The conclusion is made that it is necessary to pay attention to the problem of modernisation of philological education in the context of the development of the information civilisation.
