Abstract

One of the important parameters that affects the processes of energy supply during physical exercises is the glycemic index (GI) of food products. Knowledge of the glycemic index is essential for future specialists in physical education and sports, as it allows optimizing nutrition to improve athletic performance, recovery after exertion, and support the overall health of athletes and individuals who engage in physical activities for health purposes. The aim of the research is to update the knowledge for future specialists in physical education and sports about the glycemic index in the process of forming the educational component «Sports Nutrition» in educational programs for training specialists in this field.Methodology: Theoretical foundations of physiology, biochemistry, and hygiene of nutrition. Fundamentals of rational and balanced nutrition.Research objectives: to study and analyze the scientific literature regarding the available data on the glycemic index; to explore ways of integrating materials for training future specialists in physical education and sports during the formation of the educational component «Sports Nutrition» in the process of its modeling. Materials and methods: The method of theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific literature, modeling. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the generalization and updating of knowledge about the glycemic index in the process of modeling the educational component «Sports Nutrition».Conclusions: Knowledge of the glycemic index is essential for future specialists in physical education and sports, as it helps not only improve the physical performance of athletes but also maintain their health. Considering the GI of foods in nutrition contributes to optimal energy use, recovery after training, and ensuring long-term physical endurance. Therefore, it is important to integrate education about the glycemic index into educational programs for specialists in the educational component «Sports Nutrition».
